Matthias Doepke

Biography

Matthias Doepke is Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science and holds the Gerald F. and Marjorie G. Fitzgerald Chair in Economic History at Northwestern University. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the “University of Chicago in 2000. His research analyzes how decisions made within” families influence macroeconomic outcomes and, conversely, how economic conditions are reflected in family behavior. His work has been published in leading international journals such as American Economic Review, Econometrica, Journal of Political Economy, Quarterly Journal of Economics, and Review of Economic Studies. He is co-author (with Fabrizio Zilibotti) of the bestselling book Love, Money, and Parenting: How Economics Explains the Way We Raise Our Kids. Doepke is co-editor of the Journal of the European Economic Association, recipient of an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship, and a Fellow of the Econometric Society. His studies have been featured in major international media outlets, including the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, NPR, The Economist, The Guardian, and Financial Times.
