Caroline Hoxby is a Professor of Economics at Stanford University, directs the Economics of Education program at NBER, and was formerly a Professor of Economics at Harvard. She is one of the leading scholars in the field of economics of education and is known for promoting the use of rigorous scientific methods. She led the Expanding College Opportunities project, which significantly improved educational outcomes for high-achieving students from low-income families, receiving the Smithsonian Ingenuity Award. Her research explores the costs of education, school choice, the impact of teachers and classmates, and how education influences economic growth. Her upcoming book, The Fork in the Road, connects neuroscience and education. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the British Academy. She earned her Ph.D. from MIT, studied at Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, and graduated summa cum laude from Harvard.
