Luis Garicano is a Full Professor of Economic Policy at the London School of Economics and a fellow of CEPR. He has recently returned to his academic career after serving as a Member of the European Parliament. His academic career includes full professorships at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, the London School of Economics, and IE Business School in Madrid. He has also held visiting professorships at MIT, Columbia Business School, and London Business School. His research focuses on the “organization of knowledge, talent, and specialization, analyzing the effects on productivity and economic growth, as well as how information” technologies affect “organization and productivity. His studies have been published in prestigious academic journals such as the Journal of Political Economy, Quarterly Journal of Economics, American Economic Review, and Review of Economic Studies. He has also developed policy research to improve European institutions in crisis prevention and climate transition, including the European Safe Bonds proposal, adopted by the European Commission. He has an upcoming book with Princeton University Press titled “Crisis Cycle: Challenges, Evolution, and Future of the Euro,” co-authored with Klaus Masuch and John Cochrane. He currently co-writes the Silicon Continent blog on Substack, dedicated to Europe, innovation, and technology. As a Member of the European Parliament and Vice-President of Renew Europe from 2019, Garicano led the group’s economic work and coordinated activities in the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee. He oversaw ECB appointments and financial supervision, contributing to the definition of legislation during the pandemic, including the Recovery and Reconstruction Facility. He was a member of the executive committee of Ciudadanos, a centrist Spanish party, and of the” Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for “Europe. Garicano holds degrees in Economics and Law from the” University of Valladolid, a Master’s from the College of “Europe, and a Master’s and Ph.D. in Economics from the” University of Chicago. He has collaborated with major international media, including El Mundo, El País, Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, The Economist, and Le Monde.
