An economist, she is the first Swiss woman to obtain a chair at Harvard University, where she currently holds the position of Albert Pratt Professor of Business and Government at the Harvard Kennedy School.
She is also co-director of the Women and Public Policy Program and Director of the Social Sciences program at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. She was a member of the Board of Directors of Credit Suisse (2012-2023) where she promoted diversity and sustainability initiatives within the bank. Her research focuses on applying behavioral economics to improve decision-making in organizations and society, with particular attention to gender equality and cultural diversity.
She is the author of the book What Works: Gender Equality by Design (2016), which proposes evidence-based solutions to overcome gender bias, and in 2025 she co-authored the book Make Work Fair: Data-Driven Design for Real Results, which explores the “use of behavioral design to promote” equity in the workplace.
