Biography

Francesco Maria Chelli has been the President of Istat since May 30, 2024. Full Professor of Economic Statistics at the Department of Economic and Social Sciences of the Faculty of Economics “Giorgio Fuà” at the Polytechnic University of Marche since 2006, he has also been, at the University, Director of the Department of Economic and Social Sciences and Dean of the Faculty of Economics. He served for two terms as President of the Italian Society of Economics, Demography and Statistics. From 2021 to 2022, he was Director of the Department for Statistical Production at Istat, and from 2022 to 2023, a member of the Istat Council. After being entrusted with the legal representation and ordinary administration of the Institute, in May 2023 he assumed the position of Acting President of Istat. He is the author of over one hundred articles published in national and international scientific journals.
