Francesco Decarolis

Biography

Francesco Decarolis is a Full Professor of Economics at Bocconi University, where he holds the ENEL Foundation Chair on global competitiveness and transition in energy markets. He is also a Research Affiliate at CEPR. His research focuses on the organization and performance of markets, with particular attention to competition issues, the effects of regulatory policies, auction mechanisms and public procurement, and the interaction between the public and private sectors. After obtaining his PhD in Economics from the University of Chicago, Francesco worked at the University of Wisconsin Madison, University of Pennsylvania, Boston University, Columbia University, and Stanford University before returning to Italy. He has also worked for a period at the Bank of Italy and at the Einaudi Institute for Economics and Finance. His scientific work has been published in leading international journals, including American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, and Management Science. His works have received recognition including the ERC Grant (both Starting and Consolidator) and numerous awards from international scientific associations. At Bocconi, Francesco teaches courses in industrial economics and market organization, both at undergraduate and graduate levels, and is regularly invited to give seminars and lectures internationally. He strongly believes in the role of empirical research to improve the quality of public decisions and the ability of institutions to address the great challenges of our time.
